Faune Dance Troupe derives its name from Prélude à L´apres midi d´un Faune, the ballet choreographed by the legendary Ballet Russe dancer Vaslav Nijinsky. This name was chosen in part to honor the memory of our teacher, mentor and friend, the late Vladimir Dokoudovsky, who was himself a principal dancer with Colonel Vassili de Basil's Ballet Russes from 1942 to 1950. Mr.Dokoudovsky greatly admired Nijinsky's work having performed his choreography and same repertoire, he realized Nijinskys' genius. Through Dokoudovsky's enthusiasm, we learned to respect the passion, originality and artistry of Nijinsky. Faune Dance Troupe has one artistic goal: to incorporate in our work the technique and style, and above all the sheer love of dance that Mr.Dokoudovsky imparted to us.
